Letter to EEMB Faculty with Demands Toward Racial Equity

EEMB graduate students have written a letter to our faculty demanding departmental actions to dismantle anti-Black racism.

July 6, 2020

The EEMB Graduate Student Committee for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Wellness (DEIW), with the help of other members of the department, has written a petition to our faculty demanding specific improvements in EEMB's support for Black students and all oppressed people in our academic community.

EEMB GSAC supports the demands of the DEIW Committee in full. We urge you to read the petition's letter and sign it as soon as you can. You can sign the petition here and review the public list of signatures here. You can also access both of these links, as well as a link to the letter written by Black Graduate Students of EEMB, by clicking "Direct to Signatures" at the top of the petition document.

The petition contains a detailed appendix. Please refer to this appendix if you have questions about current practices in our department/university or the specifics of a particular demand. The appendix also points to existing models our department can emulate and it includes references to important background info.

The DEIW Committee encourages those who sign the petition to share it widely via email, social media, and word of mouth. All of the text in the petition and appendices is meant to be recycled by other institutions and individuals also working to dismantle systemic racism.
